Its been two weeks since I paid to have a phone line and internet installed in my flat by Qnet.. still nothing.. Since school is going to be out for Eid I doubt I will be posting anything for the next week or so. Have a happy Eid and see you after school starts!

Little Octo here was our first “successful” 3D print on our new MakerBot (we found the file on Thingiverse.com). I’m really happy I got the opportunity to help build the MakerBot; many thanks to professor Lombard!
What kind of a moron leaves the country for two years and doesn’t take any form of medical records with them? Apparently my kind of moron. I cannot believe I didn’t think about bringing my records with me to Qatar -_- I ended up having to take a blood test today to create a Qatari record of my immunizations for VCU. Blah!
Yesterday we took our MakerBot for a test drive. It wasn’t until we actually ran the MakerBot did we realize how appropriate it was to choose to print Yoda. Apparently the MakerBot makes all these crazy beeping noises as it works, and it sounded just like R2D2 while it builds. As you can see we had a few technical difficulties from the get go, starting with our raft not printing because the plastic wasn’t being fed into the nozzle by the motor. Once we worked out the motor issues everything seemed to go well until the barring fell out and the whole platform started to shake, we quickly fit it back in but it fell out several times during the build. Finally we were getting pretty excited to see Yoda almost fully built then the computer crashed.. we tried to reboot and resume the print but it was getting late and we decided to just start fresh today. Wish us luck.
I’ve been reading Design Studies: A Reader for two weeks now.. its an excellent text book. If you’re interested in Design Studies this is a great place to start.
Our MakerBot is making stuff!! We just finished the build yesterday, today we were testing everything out. This is our first “creation”. Tomorrow I’ll post an actual printed 3D object.
If Kitty isn’t sleeping, she is running around the house.. we love her already.
Wandering the halls of VCU looking for something to learn and someone to learn from before the actual semester starts; I was lucky enough to meet professor Lombard. He was just starting to assemble the schools new build it yourself 3D printer, and he kindly agreed to let me help build it. I’ve been having a blast. I’ll post photos once I get regular internet again.
